Greetings From the Chair of the Board of Directors

Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
Chair, Board of Directors
Cobb/NMA Health Institute

Welcome to the National Medical Association, W. Montague Cobb Health Institute website.  The qualities of W. Montague Cobb are alive in this organization.  Dr. Cobb’s courage, perseverance, and commitment to achieve justice and improve the health and welfare of African Americans serve as examples to us all.  Today, I serve as the proud Chair of the Board for the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute.  The Cobb Institute, founded by the National Medical Association is focused on the elimination of disparities in health and healthcare that disproportionately affect African Americans. Disparities in health among, racial and ethnic groups in the US are significant and, by many measures, continue to increase.

The Cobb Institute is conducting research that will translate into policy and ultimately into action.  The long-range goal of this institute is to build on its already solid reputation of excellence. The Cobb/NMA Institute has embarked on a research agenda that is both exciting and beneficial to all those who hold health dear.

I would like to give special thanks to the leadership of the NMA, our staff, corporate and foundation partners and others who are helping to make Dr. Cobb’s vision a reality.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I welcome you.
