James Powell, M.D., C.P.I.

imageDr. James H. Powell received the Doctor of Medicine Degree from Cornell University Medical College where he also trained in Clinical Pharmacology.  In 1982, he joined Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals where he retired as Senior Medical Director, Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics Department in 2006. 

Dr. Powell is a charter member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators, (APPI), a former member of its Board of Trustees, and recipient of its Lifetime Honorary Membership Award.  He is a member of the board of trustees for “The Center for Closing the Health Gap in Greater Cincinnati.” Dr. Powell is Principal Investigator of National Medical Association’s Project IMPACT (Increase Minority Participation and Awareness of Clinical Trials) – an effort to educate African-American physicians and consumers on clinical research participation, and Director, Biomedical Research for the W. Montague Cobb/NMA Health Institute. 

Dr. Powell was appointed in 2005 to the HHS Secretary’s Advisory Committee for Human Research Protection (SACHRP) and is a member of the National Library of Medicine Board of Regents ClinicalTrials.gov Working Group.  Dr. Powell has authored many publications on basic and clinical research and has conducted multiple scientific presentations including several on clinical trials in people of color.
